Soetes and Soup 2012

A wine festival in the middle of winter originally sounded like building an igloo in the Sahara...simply not practical.  But hosting the event for five consecutive years and seeing it grow exponentially every year proves one thing...come rain, come snow, nothing can come between South Africans and our love for wine! (add a cup of homemade soup and you are well on your way to hosting the event of the season!)

The weekend of 22 and 23 July 2011 was no exception.  Hundreds of visitors came from various parts of the country to experience true Boland hospitality at the Breedekloof Soetes and Soup Festival 2011!

The Blind Lemon Blues entertained our guests with live music Saturday while visitors enjoyed a tasting of our award-winning wines, homemade butternut soup and true countryside hospitality on the Saturday.

New discoveries on the Jason’s Hill Hiking Trail

Up until recently the Jason’s Hill Hiking Trail has been known for its natural plant life and magnificent views on the valley.  The discovery of a beautiful leopard and an abundance of other animal life can now be added to the attractions of this popular trail.

Klipspringers, Honey Badgers, Cape Foxes and various bird species were plentiful but the real highlight was a beautiful male leopard.  This elite member of the cat family has never been spotted in real life.

The Cape Leopard Trust is currently exploring large parts of the Boland and has found more than one leopard in the Slanghoek area since the recent launch of the project.  These animals do not pose any threat to humans and mainly hunt at night.  For more information about the Cape Leopard Trust and pictures of the animals found on our trail visit http://www.capeleopard.org.za/updates/exciting_results_from_boland_camera_traps_.html
